Gascosage Electric Cooperative is announcing an open seat on the Board of Directors representing Maries County. Cooperative members who are interested in serving their community and helping guide the future of the cooperative are encouraged to learn more about the opportunity below: 

    Gascosage Electric is governed by a Board of Directors made up of members from across our service territory. Our directors are responsible for helping establish policies, overseeing the cooperative’s long-term vision, maintaining financial stewardship, and representing the interests of the membership.

    Board members are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct while acting in the best interest of the cooperative and its members.

The Cooperative’s Board Qualification and Conduct Policy emphasizs the importance of:

  1. Adhering to all applicable laws, bylaws, and board policies
  2. Acting in good faith for the benefit of the cooperative
  3. Avoiding personal or financial conflicts of interest
  4. Maintaining confidentiality of cooperative information
  5. Treating fellow board members, employees, and members with professionalism and respect
  6. Supporting board decisions and working collaboratively in the best interest of the membership

Serving on the Board of Directors provides members with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of electric service throughout the area while representing the needs and interests of their community.

To qualify for service on the Board of Directors, candidates must meet all requirements outlined in the Cooperative’s bylaws and policies. Among other qualifications, candidates must:

  1. Be a member and bona fide resident in the area served by the Cooperative
  2. Not be employed by or financially interested in competing electric-related enterprises
  3. Not hold certain compensated elective public offices
  4. Not be a current employee of the Cooperative or have been employed by the Cooperative within the previous sixty consecutive months
  5. Not have been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to a felony crime
  6. Be legally able to enter binding contracts under Missouri law
  7. Be a United States citizen
  8. Avoid personal relationships or circumstances that could create conflicts of interest or interfere with independent decision-making
  9. Maintain their electric account in good standing without disconnection for non-payment 36 months prior to becoming a director
  10. Fully disclose campaign contributions and expenditures related to Board elections
  11. Refrain from accepting third-party financial benefits related to Board service once elected
  12. Follows current nepotism policy set forth by the Cooperative.

Individuals interested in seeking the open Maries County board seat must be nominated in accordance with the Cooperative’s bylaws. Bylaws state that any fifteen or more members acting together may complete nominations by petition not less than eighty days prior to the date of our annual meeting which is to be held on September 12, 2026. This will make the deadline to petition, June 24th, 2026, by 4:00 p.m. The Secretary will post all nominations at the same location where nominations made by the committee is posted which is located at the home office of the Cooperative (803 S. Ellen St. Dixon, Missouri). In addition to the Nomination by Petition from, the Financial Disclosure form is also required by the bylaws to be completed by the interested party. Both are to be due back to the Cooperative by the harsh deadline of June 24th, 2026 by 4pm.
