Remembering Jim Humphrey: Longtime Gascosage Electric Cooperative Board Member Passes Away
Jim Humphrey devoted more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Gascosage Electric Cooperative Board of Directors. He represented the members of Maries County with integrity, commitment, and compassion. He was first elected to the Board on September 26, 1992, Jim believed strongly in the importance of close relationships with cooperative members as he was responsible for representing their ideas, concerns, and needs.
A lifelong resident of Maries County, Jim built lasting friendships within his community that he adored so greatly. Alongside his wife, Pearl, he made his home on their family farm outside of Dixon. There, they raised their children and grandchildren and represented a life centered around family, hard work, and community.
Jim retired from a long and productive Civil Service career in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, bringing valuable leadership and operational knowledge to the cooperative. During his time on the Board, he played an instrumental role in planning, development, and implementation efforts. These efforts included evolving areas of employee benefits, storm restoration assistance, the cooperative’s in-house Right-of-Way program and finally the implementation of GTech Fiber LLC. His thoughtful leadership and steady presence helped guide the cooperative through many years of growth and progress.
Committed to lifelong learning and strong cooperative governance, Jim worked hard to sustain his cooperative knowledge. He gained many certificates and attended countless schools. Some of his greatest achievements just within the cooperative were: Cooperative Director Certificate, Board Leadership Certificate, and Director Gold Credential. He also regularly attended conferences, training sessions, and meetings to stay informed on the updating electric industry and better serve the membership.
Jim leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to the cooperative community. His impact on Gascosage Electric Cooperative and the members he served will not be forgotten.
Jim passed away on Saturday, May 9, surrounded by the family he cared for so deeply. He will be greatly missed by fellow board members, employees, cooperative members, friends, and loved ones.
